Welcome to Southern Bowhunting. Southern Bowhunting will soon be the premier bowhunting website on the internet. We cater to the average, everyday Joe who loves their time in the outdoors. Our trophies are the memories that are made in the outdoors, a big buck or bass only enhance these memories, but not neccessarily our goal when we go afield. Taught to camp, hunt, and fish by our fathers and grandfathers, we not only believe in, but live the Southern Family Traditions that we were raised by. Look through our site, register on the SBH Forum, and become a part of our growing outdoor family. As a registered member of our forum, you will be able to participate in our upcoming contests. You can also follow Team SBH on Camospace, Deerspace, and Facebook by clicking on the links below.

Check out God's Outdoors Disciples. This is an organization that introduces kids to the outdoors while teaching them Christian Values.

Pro Bow Vise

By Axis Pro

For the last several years, for one reason or another, I’ve began doing more of the maintenance on my bow myself. As such, I have either borrowed the tools/equipment needed to do it myself or I’ve purchased the equipment as I could afford it.

I’ve borrowed couple different bow vises, which allowed me to get the work done, but I wasn’t impressed with the vises themselves. These would only allow the bow to be positioned on one or, if it was a good vise, maybe two planes.

Learning and Scouting New Properties

Part 1 of 3

Newly acquired properties that give new and additional hunting opportunities can bring some excitement to a hunter. Time in a new woodlot that a hunter is not familiar with will require a lot of time and hard work to prepare for the upcoming hunting seasons. These properties can come as additions to your local refuge/management area or property leased through a hunting club that the hunter has become a member of and hunting for the first time.

A hunter who has become a member of a hunting club, has an advantage, in that a lot of the work has been done for him. In most cases, the club will have a good map (satellite or topo) of the property indicating the roads, property lines, atv trails, stand locations, food plot locations, and wooded verses cutover plantations. If the information on the map is not enough, then the membership and club officers are there to point the new member in the right direction and provide assistance as needed. The hunter can then set off to scout the area for his/her prime stand location.

If the hunter is planning to hunt public land, whether it be a National Wildlife Refuge or a state owned Wildlife Management Area, he is at a disadvantage as he must learn much of the information listed above himself. Chances are that the agencies will provide map for these properties, but the information found on those maps is minimal at best. As such, this hunter has a lot of work to do in order to find that prime stand location.

Madison Deer Calls Custom Made Grunts

Gear Review

In late August or early September of 2009, I was approached about the Southern Bowhunting staff and asked to do some field testing with a deer grunt for a new and small deer call company. As I was somewhat dissatisfied with the grunts I used during the 2008-09 deer season, I was anxious to give these grunts a try. A short time later, I recieved two grunts in the mail. Upon opening the box and looking at these calls, still in their package, I was immediately impressed.
